Won’t start/launch (D3DERR_DEVICELOST) error occurs in POSTAL 2 when postal.ini file is not set properly. There is nothing to worry about though. You’ll learn how to fix it 🙂
Fix 1: Enable OpenGL Render Device
Follow the steps below if you dont know how to do it.
- Close Steam.
- Go to the installation folder of Postal 2 (Mostly: C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\SteamApps\common\POSTAL2\System).
- Look for “Postal.ini” file.
- Edit it with Notepad or Notepad++ (Both are ok).
- Find “RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice” line and change it to “;RenderDevice=D3DDrv.D3DRenderDevice” (With semicolon).
- Find “;RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice” and change it to “RenderDevice=OpenGLDrv.OpenGLRenderDevice” (No semicolon).
- Save the file and exit.
- Launch POSTAL 2.
Worked for me. This will definitely fix your won’t start/launch (D3DERR_DEVICELOST) problem in POSTAL 2.
